Now, before there are comments that I hate cops or something, I don’t. I count several police officers among my closest friends after my many years in the fire service. To help balance out the cop being an idiot…we don’t know what happened leading up to it. Maybe he asked the firefighter nicely several times, “hey, I know you’re trying to protect the accident scene, but could you move your truck a bit and clear one more lane to help me out? Traffic is backing up for miles and I’m afraid we’re going to have another accident here pretty soon.” Maybe the firefighter’s response was, “*uck off, pig, let me do my job.” Not saying that occurred, but I’ve definitely worked with some firefighters over the years who could be counted on to say something stupid like that. If I was a cop and some hose jockey on an accident scene said that to me, I’d probably have to resist the urge to cuff and stuff him too (but I’d like to believe that ultimately, I would indeed resist doing so). Maybe the firefighter indeed had placed his vehicle incorrectly, I couldn’t tell in the video. I’ve seen firefighters swing their engines out wide and block 3 lanes of a 4 lane highway when clearly they could have kept the scene just as safe by blocking only one 1 or 2. That extra lane or two of moving traffic helps the cops out a lot and also can help reduce the chance of causing MORE accidents. Sometimes we in the fire service don’t think about details like that. All in all, a bad situation where nobody comes out looking good. If I’m the police chief, I’m having a “come to jesus” talk with the arresting officer. If I’m the fire chief, I’ll be reviewing exactly how the firefighter spotted the vehicle, whether it was within the law, and whether he gave the cop any attitude or lip when he was first asked to move it. I watch very few, if any, drama shows like this, I watch science, nature, historic documentaries, certain sports and movies. I want TV to teach me stuff, I crave knowledge. One of the reasons I DON’T watch shows like Chicago Fire, is simply because I find them unrealistic in both the fireground situations and the overly hyped drama they show in the firehalls, it literally makes me cringe. Sure, there’s drama for every Fire Fighter on & off the job that affects life in the halls, but we’d never survive the constant crap they show on TV…we’d be killing each other!! Lol I could barely sit through the movie Backdraft and I’m sure people around me were getting tired of my comments on just how shittily unrealistic it all was. Other Fire Fighters I knew that attended the same night never made it to the end, they walked out and you literally could hear them saying “what an F’ing joke this thing is…” My kids were 12 & 10 at the time and they were like “is that what it’s like for you out there Dad” and my answer was “not even close..” Dan & Dave both answered how they feel and being Brother FF’s, their insight is of course, spot on. In a fire, we usually see very little if anything except for glowing smoke, or just pitch blackness. It’s VERY hot, we crawl alot during any attack &/or rescue scenario, but much of the job is car fires and accidents (with or without victim extrication), medical calls, garbage fires or small shed/grass fires, false alarms and station fill-in’s when another station is called out. One of the reasons I DON’T watch shows like Chicago Fire, is simply because I find them unrealistic in both the fireground situations and the overly hyped drama they show in the firehalls, it literally makes me cringe. Sure, there’s drama for every Fire Fighter on & off the job that affects life in the halls, but we’d never survive the constant crap they show on TV…we’d be killing each other!! Lol I could barely sit through the movie Backdraft and I’m sure people around me were getting tired of my comments on just how shittily unrealistic it all was. Other Fire Fighters I knew that attended the same night never made it to the end, they walked out and you literally could hear them saying “what an F’ing joke this thing is…” My kids were 12 & 10 at the time and they were like “is that what it’s like for you out there Dad” and my answer was “not even close..” Dan & Dave both answered how they feel and being Brother FF’s, their insight is of course, spot on. In a fire, we usually see very little if anything except for glowing smoke, or just pitch blackness. It’s VERY hot, we crawl alot during any attack &/or rescue scenario, but much of the job is car fires and accidents (with or without victim extrication), medical calls, garbage fires or small shed/grass fires, false alarms and station fill-in’s when another station is called out. Now, before there are comments that I hate cops or something, I don’t. I count several police officers among my closest friends after my many years in the fire service. To help balance out the cop being an idiot…we don’t know what happened leading up to it. Maybe he asked the firefighter nicely several times, “hey, I know you’re trying to protect the accident scene, but could you move your truck a bit and clear one more lane to help me out? Traffic is backing up for miles and I’m afraid we’re going to have another accident here pretty soon.” Maybe the firefighter’s response was, “*uck off, pig, let me do my job.” Not saying that occurred, but I’ve definitely worked with some firefighters over the years who could be counted on to say something stupid like that. If I was a cop and some hose jockey on an accident scene said that to me, I’d probably have to resist the urge to cuff and stuff him too (but I’d like to believe that ultimately, I would indeed resist doing so). Maybe the firefighter indeed had placed his vehicle incorrectly, I couldn’t tell in the video. I’ve seen firefighters swing their engines out wide and block 3 lanes of a 4 lane highway when clearly they could have kept the scene just as safe by blocking only one 1 or 2. That extra lane or two of moving traffic helps the cops out a lot and also can help reduce the chance of causing MORE accidents. Sometimes we in the fire service don’t think about details like that. All in all, a bad situation where nobody comes out looking good. If I’m the police chief, I’m having a “come to jesus” talk with the arresting officer. If I’m the fire chief, I’ll be reviewing exactly how the firefighter spotted the vehicle, whether it was within the law, and whether he gave the cop any attitude or lip when he was first asked to move it. I watch very few, if any, drama shows like this, I watch science, nature, historic documentaries, certain sports and movies. I want TV to teach me stuff, I crave knowledge. One of the reasons I DON’T watch shows like Chicago Fire, is simply because I find them unrealistic in both the fireground situations and the overly hyped drama they show in the firehalls, it literally makes me cringe. Sure, there’s drama for every Fire Fighter on & off the job that affects life in the halls, but we’d never survive the constant crap they show on TV…we’d be killing each other!! Lol I could barely sit through the movie Backdraft and I’m sure people around me were getting tired of my comments on just how shittily unrealistic it all was. Other Fire Fighters I knew that attended the same night never made it to the end, they walked out and you literally could hear them saying “what an F’ing joke this thing is…” My kids were 12 & 10 at the time and they were like “is that what it’s like for you out there Dad” and my answer was “not even close..” Dan & Dave both answered how they feel and being Brother FF’s, their insight is of course, spot on. In a fire, we usually see very little if anything except for glowing smoke, or just pitch blackness. It’s VERY hot, we crawl alot during any attack &/or rescue scenario, but much of the job is car fires and accidents (with or without victim extrication), medical calls, garbage fires or small shed/grass fires, false alarms and station fill-in’s when another station is called out. Throw in the occasional hazmat, tech (high angle, confined spaces, trenches, etc.) or water rescue calls and that’s 95% of life on the job. DODOLCLOTHING | Awesome T-shirt store in the US
