The skilled labor isn’t cheap cheap labor isn’t skilled shirt! Today is part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2020 Launch Day, where nearly 100 companies debut their efforts to the world for the first time. The Summer 2020 corporate team is the first fully remote YC cohort, with the ongoing pandemic leading the accelerator engine bringing its bots completely virtual. But that was actually YC’s second virtual introduction day; as the severity of the pandemic became more apparent in March, YC turned the Winter 2020 class Demo Day part into virtual at the last minute. Doing so means eliminating key aspects of Demo Day… including, most notably… demos. Instead of a direct pitch, each company in the W20 group advertises their pitch through a slide and a brief description of the company andSkilled Labor Isn't Cheap Cheap Labor Isn't Skilled T-Shirt!
YC obviously got a little extra time to prepare around this time, with the Demo Day experience better suited to the experience of live events and skilled labor isn’t cheap cheap labor isn’t skilled shirt! In a series of incredibly quick direct offers, each company had only 60 seconds to pitch to an audience of investors, the media and fellow founders; it is enough to outline who they are and what they do, but often leaves more in-depth details on how / why for follow-up conversations.
